Major Distinctions Between Interior Design and Interior Decoration
Well before writing this blog in respect of the above
topic, I must tell you that I was also one of them like many of you who
believed that Interior Design and Decoration are as same as their name sounds. But
it’s a myth. Out of ten people, nine of them have misconceptualized this in a
broader sense. Hence, this blog is made to breakthrough some key aspects related
to the mentioned topic. So, here it is.
The first aspect that we could find to differentiate
between interior design and decoration is describing their respective
definitions. Interior design is the art and science of furnishing the interior
of a building in order to create a lighter, healthier and aesthetically
pleasing environment for the people around us. While, interior decoration
consists of scientific and artistic creativity for making an interior space
functionally useful for it’s inhabitants.
Secondly, an interior designer is someone who knows
how to plan, research, coordinates and manage to enhance such work before
execute. In other word interior designing is mostly related with architects to
design the interior. While an interior decorator helps to determine the look and
feel of a client’s home, apartment, resident, office, hotel by selecting and placing
decorative elements such as paints, textiles and furniture etc.
Thirdly, interior design requires schooling and
formal training which includes understanding of color, spatial planning, computer
aided design training, sketching, space planning, architecture and so on. One
need to establish him/herself before starting their career as a professional interior designer. On the other hand interior
decoration doesn’t require any institutional knowledge and training in order to
practice as it focuses on aesthetics.
Four, in interior designing a designer has to give their
respective exams and register themselves. For decorating space, today there are
many course of interior decoration are available and one can easily pick up any
of them. These courses focuse on styling furniture, enhancing room and space etc.
Lastly,
interior designing concerns around both structural and functional aspect
of a space while interior decoration concerns around how to functionally decorate
a space.
From the above discussion it can be clearly seen
that there are not one but too many major facts included in designing and decorating. Finally, on this
note one thing that can also be concluded both interior design and decoration are
jointly needed as per the requirements of our space to build a masterpiece.
Informative blog. Really didn't know the difference between these two. Thanks for clarifying.
