In our previous blog “7 elements of Interior Design” we had shown some brief instance of how furniture plays a significant role while decorating a space. As it name emplies “interior”, it suggests the inside part of something and furniture takes a big part of it. So, it can surely be said that the two of them are closely interrelated to each other.

Furniture can be defined as a product of design and is considered a form of decorative art. Archaeological research shows that from around 30,000 years ago, people began constructing and carving their own furniture, using wood, stone, and animal bones. Early furniture from this period is known from artwork such as a Venus figurine found in Russia, depicting the goddess on a throne. The first surviving extant furniture is in the homes of Skara Brae in Scotland, and includes cupboards, dressers and beds all constructed from stone. Complex construction techniques such as joinery began in the early dynastic period of ancient Egypt. This era saw constructed wooden pieces, including stools and tables, sometimes decorated with valuable metals or ivory. The evolution of furniture design continued in ancient Greece and ancient Rome, with thrones being commonplace as well as the klinai, multipurpose couches used for relaxing, eating, and sleeping. The furniture of the Middle Ages was usually heavyoak, and ornamented. Furniture design expanded during the Italian Renaissance of the fourteenth and fifteenth century. The seventeenth century, in both Southern and Northern Europe, was characterized by opulent, often gilded Baroque designs. The nineteenth century is usually defined by revival styles. The first three-quarters of the twentieth century are often seen as the march towards Modernism. One unique outgrowth of post-modern furniture design is a return to natural shapes and textures.

Furniture has the great power to change the overall look of a room only if you chose the right one for your space. Besides the elements such as color, shape, texture, line, light-a piece of  furniture do play a pivotal role in furnishing and enhancing the whole appearance of a space. So, if you are planning to design and decorate your house , you should always keep this in mind that choose  the right pieces of furniture according to the style of your interior.

For instance picking large pieces of furniture  for small rooms will ruin the entire look of a space, or if you pick wooden furniture for royal looking space it will also go wrong. Thus, firstly make a plan of how you want your interior space to look like! After finishing of the interior designing, go through the every aspect of your space minutely from living room to bed room, from color to texture, from ceiling to floor work etc. Then lastly select furniture accordingly. Never over look the balance of any mentioned aspects.

Thus,on this note it can be concluded that furnitures are as important as the other part of interior designing. It defines your space aesthetically. And it is also seen that there is an in depth relation between interior design and furniture. They are like two sides of a coin
